Are Louvre tickets timed?

Yes. You must book a specific time slot for your visit. This rule applies to everyone, including holders of the Paris Museum Pass and those with free admission. You must arrive within your designated 30-minute window.

The museum opens at 9:00 and closes at 18:00 on Monday,  Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Wednesday & Fridays, the museum stays open late until 21:00 . The Louvre is closed every Tuesday.

The best times are Wednesday and Thursday mornings right at 9:00. Late night openings on Fridays also tend to be quieter. Avoid weekends and school holidays if possible.

 The Carrousel du Louvre entrance is often faster than the main Pyramid entrance. You access it via the underground shopping mall at 99 Rue de Rivoli. The Richelieu passage is reserved for group reservations and membership cardholders.

Yes. The museum covers over 60,000 square meters. You will walk several kilometers during a standard visit. Wear comfortable flat shoes and carry a bottle of water.

 Her fame grew significantly after she was stolen in 1911. Leonardo da Vinci also used innovative techniques like sfumato to create her ambiguous expression and the imaginary landscape background.

 The painting depicts the survivors of the French frigate Méduse which sank in 1816. The captain left 147 people on a makeshift raft. Only 15 survived after 13 days of starvation and dehydration.

 Vincenzo Peruggia, an Italian handyman, stole the Mona Lisa. He hid inside a closet overnight and walked out with the painting under his smock the next morning. He kept it in his apartment for two years.

The Eiffel Tower is about 3.5 kilometers from the Louvre. You can take a taxi which takes 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can walk along the Seine river for about 45 minutes to reach it.

The Mona Lisa hangs in the Denon Wing on the 1st floor. You will find it in the Salle des États, which is Room 711. Follow the large signs specifically marked for this painting.
